The Cloning and Genetic Engineering Survey

As a part of my biology final research project, I've decided to research what people think about cloning. Before we begin, it's important for us all to know exactly what I'm talking about when I say "Cloning". Cloning is the process of making genetically identical copies of an organism. I will briefly explain human cloning here, in case you don't know anything about it. Human cloning would involve taking a DNA sample from a human, and fusing the DNA with an unfertilized egg cell. The egg would then be placed inside a surrogate mother, and it would grow and develop as a normal child. Unfortunately, this technique is very risky. It took 277 tries to get this to work on a cloned sheep, and would take many more in order to develop a healthy human. Human cloning could be used for a number of purposes, but scientists at this point in time, generally agree that it would not be justified to clone a human with this technique. In the future however, this could lead to major medical discoveries and advancement. Thank you for your time. If you want more information about cloning, Click here for a very good site which has information and a number of links to pages with cloning information.

Do you believe that the cloning of human organs is ethical?

Yes, but only if the buying and selling of the organs is regulated heavily by the government.

Yes, even if the private companies cloning the organs make a profit by selling them to hospitals/individuals.

No,

  Other/Comments/Whatever:

Do you think that cloning of entire humans is ethical?

(Note: Scientists and Physicians have both agreed that cloning of human beings would be Unethical AT THIS TIME, so this questions was asked with the FUTURE in mind.)

Yes, but not until the technique is less risky.

Yes, but only under certain circumstances.

No, Cloning is wrong.

  Circumstances/Comments:

Is genetically engineering animals to have human organs, then killing them for the purpose of harvesting the organs ethical?

(Go to the 3rd paragraph where it says "Another..." and read from there.)

Yes, if they are saving human lives why not?.

No, killing animals is wrong, even if human lives are saved.

I would need more information before I decide (The type of animal, How risky the technique is, etc.)
